Juergen Winkler

Juergen Winkler is a professor of Neurology and head of the Department of Molecular Neurology, Movement Disorder Center at the University Hospital Erlangen, Germany. Since 2009, Prof. Winkler is also a visiting scholar at the Department of Neurosciences of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He is the speaker/scientific coordinator of the Bavarian stem cell consortium, speaker of the Department of Neurosciences, University Hospital Erlangen, scientific advisor for the German Bundestag with focus on stem cell technology, member of ELAN and Science Committee, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen- Nuremberg, and ad-hoc advisor “Heavy Metal” for the Senate German Science Foundation, Berlin. In 1986, he graduated in medicine from the School of Medicine, Albert-Ludwigs- University, Freiburg and Louis-Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France. He received his Habilitation in 2000 from the University of Regensburg, Germany and obtained training in Neurology from the Department of Neuropathology, Heinrich-Heine, University Düsseldorf from 1986 to 1988 and from the Department of Neurology/Psychiatry, Julius- Maximilians-University, Würzburg from 1988 to 1992. Prof. Winkler was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Neurosciences of UCSD from 1992 to 1995. From 1995 to 2001, he was an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Neurosciences at UCSD and from 2001 to 2009 an Associate Research Neuroscientist of the Department of Neurosciences, UCSD. Prof. Winkler was Attending Neurologist (1998-2001), the Head of Movement Disorder Center (1999-2008), Leading attending Neurologist (2001-2007), and professor of Clinical Neurobiology (2002-2007) at the Department of Neurology, University of Regensburg, Germany.
